Hail Satin - A Blog about Satin and how we can still enjoy this luxury fabric guilt free.

The throw away fashion industry is a tap that we cannot turn off.
Millions of consumers around the globe are aware of the situation, but are not in the financial or locational position; or social progressive mind set to commit to leaving their shopping habits behind them.
Particularly for luxury items - fabrics such as satin and silk are regarded as elegant luxurious and superior, and still dominate formal dress codes for things like weddings, events and religious ceremonies.
Often these garments are only needed once and then never worn again.

And while pockets of the fashion industry are making great strides of improvement in its manufacturing processes; using ethical fabrics, eliminating animal cruelty and reducing chemical additives and so on.... still the consumer carousel continues to throw out and replace, leaving quality and damaged garments in land fill that have no chance of reducing in a bio degradable way.
As a retailer we are responsible for sourcing ethical products. We do this by researching our suppliers history, ensuring they are certified or awarded for their ethical practices and often these small companies spend most of their money on perfecting their craft they may not always be perceived as trustworthy due to lack of advertising and brand awareness.
Going forward we feel it's just as important to support our customers with disposing of these garments too.

We know that most people want to help the planet and at least try to make small changes in their lifestyle that will go towards a healthier system for our future generations and quality of life on earth.
We also know how important it is to enjoy your time while you are here and celebrate every moment that you can.
So we have this modern dilemma. Live in the moment, celebrate, enjoy... but be responsible and ethical and conscious  - two worlds apart but not completely impossible to embrace.
You shouldn't have to worry about where your clothing came from and what happens to it after you have finished with it, but our reality is not very forgiving.
This is why we are passionate about selling and salvaging satin for as many people as possible.
We sell classic luxury satin items that are made to stand the test of time and we advise our customers every step of the way to donate unwanted satin to our London address. We will even cover the cost of postage and they will receive a store reward for recycling their used and unwanted items.
We then find the most suitable solution for the unwanted clothing, whether that be to resell, donate or send to a recycling organisation who can mush it down and create a whole new piece of fabric.
So whilst we may not be able to turn off the tap, we can definitely do our best to collect the stream, filter it and turn it into a positive cycle.
